Hollywood’s major studios cop a lot of shit for always taking the easy road out when it comes to their creative choices, but with Paramount’s new Christmas flick Ebenezer, some credit for daring is certainly due. This latest adaptation of Charles Dickens’ hoary old classic A Christmas Carol boasts not just a risky leading man in the reputation-challenged Johnny Depp, but a way-from-left-field director in Ti West, the man behind such demented horror flicks as MaXXXine, Pearl and X. With Rupert Grint, Ian McKellen, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin and Andrea Riseborough also in the cast, this one looks like solid festive season fun.
