Of the 125 features that will screen at the Austin, Texas, SXSW Film Festival this year, three are Australian. They’ll be joining the likes of Terrence Malick, Edgar Wright, Michael Winterbottom, and Frank Oz at the acclaimed film showcase, which runs concurrently with the ridiculously hip SXSW Music Festival from March 13 – 19.
Emma Franz’s Bill Frisell: Portrait looks at the life of the revered jazz guitarist. Recorded over three years in the US, UK, and Italy, it’s an intimate encounter with an extraordinary and significant artist.
Barbecue sees Rose Tucker and Matthew Sulleh follow on from their 2014 short, Central Texas Barbecue, traversing the world to look at the way different cultures approach the ancient art of grilling meat. The pair visit 12 countries in a mouth-watering trip into the primal heart of cooking.
Finally we have Hounds of Love from Perth director, Ben Young. Having already impressed audiences at Venice, now it’s America’s turn to get a glimpse of this terrifying tale of kidnapping, torture and sadistic mind games. Emma Booth, Ashleigh Cummings and Stephen Curry star.
