ADIPURUSH (Forum Films) | Hindi + Various
Based on the Indian mythology epic, Ramayana.
Adipurush takes place 7000 years ago, when Ayodhya’s prince Raghava and his brother Lakshmana travel to the island of Lanka with the help of Bajrang’s army, aiming to rescue Raghava’s wife Janaki, who had been abducted by Lankesh, the demon king of Lanka.
Ramayana is one of the most revered Hindu texts, which has influenced the foundation of Hinduism and the country of India as a whole. The tale is told throughout every Hindu household in the world and will give insight into the values that Hinduism holds dearly.
With a production budget that is approximated $93 million AUD, Adipurush is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. With an estimated $45 million AUD of that budget spent on visual effects, this will be a film that must be watched on the big screen.
The film is written and directed by Om Raut and produced by T-Series and Retrophiles. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu languages, the film stars Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh and Devdatta Nage.
POR THOZHIL (Southern Star) | Tamil
This action thriller has been getting rave reviews. It follows an academically bright but faint-hearten rookie cop who needs to man up and overcome his fears in order to succeed in his very first assignment team-up with a hostile and reclusive senior cop to catch a serial killer on the loose.
It is the feature directorial debut of writer/director Vignesh Raja, and the general consensus is that he is one to watch.
BOMMAI (Dream Screens International) | Tamil
Bommai (The Mannequin) is an Indian Tamil-language romantic thriller, written and directed by Radha Mohan.
It follows a foiled murder plot, as the weapon, a mannequin, comes alive and attempts to get the killers.
The music sequences are reminiscent of the grand location set pieces in films like Dilwale and Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham.
