The Movie Psychic

STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII – THE FIRST ORDER STRIKES BACK Much like Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), we will see an entirely new adventure. Finn is still in a coma, but now imprisoned by Jabba The Hutt. Rey convinces Luke Skywalker to help her rescue him. After The First Order brutally overpowers The Resistance, Rey takes advanced Jedi training with Luke Skywalker. Finn, Poe, Leia and Chewbacca are lured to Cloud City as part of Kylo Ren’s plan to capture Rey. At the end, Rey loses a foot.

KICKBOXER: RETALIATION This is the seventh in the Kickboxer series – or the second in the reboot series. Who knew. But credit where credit’s due: the producers have been determined to stick with it until they make a good one. Kurt Sloane is the son of a famous kickboxing champion who died in a kickboxing match. He wants to follow in his father’s footsteps in boxing. His father’s friend, and competitor, offers to help him on his way. Now that he’s only doing movies with “deep thoughts and meaning”, that man is Jean-Claude Van Damme.

THE MUMMY Tom Cruise’s character has been going from one relationship to another. He hears a TV presenter say “Never stay with a man who doesn’t have a good relationship with his mother.” So when he meets an amazing woman, he realises that he needs to make peace with his mother to become a better man. People have been getting confused over Tom Cruise appearing in a Brendan Fraser reboot, but that’s not the case.

BEAUTY & THE BEAST The screenwriters were initially concerned that they’d be unable to pull this off, since there’s no structure template to go by. But they’ve done a fantastic job, and I was delighted by Beauty & The Beast (2017). I defy anyone to not be moved by this most romantic of tales. And what a musical score! Who saw that coming?

FAST & FURIOUS 8 Inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) and its modernist approach to feminism, Fast 8 will be pushing a green energy agenda. Rather than the roar of V8 and Turbo engines, director, F. Gary Gray, is taking the less-is-more approach. Silence can be haunting, as we all know, and the silence of a Tesla roaring down the road at a hundred mile an hour will haunt us for 180 minutes.
We’re checking our crystal ball…yes, The Movie Psychic will be back next week.
