That’s how Duncan Jones announced he was moving forward on his long-unrealised project, Mute. Originally intended to be Jones’s first feature, but then Moon happened, which everyone loved, and Jones moved forward with Source Code (yay!) and Warcraft (not as terrible as you think!).

Jones has been pretty tight-lipped about the project, describing it as “a futuristic Casablanca” (so, Blade Runner?). We know it’s set in Berlin, and that Alexander Skargard and Paul Rudd are on board. The official synopsis is also light on detail:

“Berlin. Forty years from today. A roiling city of immigrants, where East crashes against West in a science-fiction Casablanca. Leo Beiler (Skarsgard), a mute bartender has one reason and one reason only for living here, and she’s disappeared. But when Leo’s search takes him deeper into the city’s underbelly, an odd pair of American surgeons (led by Rudd) seem to be the only recurring clue, and Leo can’t tell if they can help, or who he should fear most.”

With production kicking off shortly, it’s a safe bet we’ll be getting more details sooner rather than later
