The Stan Original Feature Film The Second will hit cinemas nationwide on July 5, ahead of its streaming release on July 20. According to tan, this marks the first release of this kind in Australia, where a film’s theatrical and digital streaming release windows will overlap.
Starring Rachael Blake (Lantana, Sleeping Beauty), Susie Porter (The Monkey’s Mask, Better Than Sex, Two Hands), Vince Colosimo (Chopper, Stingers, The Secret Life Of Us, Underbelly), Martin Sacks (A Place To Call Home, The Cup, Love in Limbo) and Susan Prior (The Rover, Puberty Blues, Muriel’s Wedding), The Second is a psychosexual thriller that sees the author of a celebrated erotic memoir clash with her best friend and muse when the latter reveals the truth behind the book, leading to “…an incendiary tale of sex, lies and betrayal.”
The Second is the feature directing debut of Mairi Cameron, and is written and produced by Stephen Lance with Leanne Tonkes also producing.
Shot on location in Queensland, the film had its world premiere at the Gold Coast Film Festival in April. Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk congratulated the Queensland creative team behind the mystery thriller, saying “This is a Queensland film through and through and its spectacular drama and storytelling will take Queensland to international audiences. It was shot at Jimbour Station on the Darling Downs; it features music written by a Queensland composer Ryan Walsh and performed by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra; it was written and produced by a Brisbane writer, directed by a Brisbane director, and funded through Screen Queensland’s landmark Queensland Originals: Fully Funded Features with Stan initiative.”
Stan’s Chief Content Officer, Nick Forward said “With a standout cast, a terrific script from Stephen Lance and Mairi Cameron doing such a fantastic job in her feature film directorial debut, we’re hugely proud of The Second. We’re excited to be delivering yet another Australian first with this release strategy, and are grateful to Screen Queensland for their support in bringing The Second to the screen.”
The Second will also screen at the Sydney Film Festival.
