“Stage Mums is all heart. Making it was more fun than a regional eisteddfod championship win,” says director Louise Alston, in the spirit of the show. “With more team work than a gold medal team tap routine. At its heart is the love (dreams, wishes, ambitions and disappointments) between Mums and daughters and between women friends. I enjoyed a fabulous creative team and all the colour and vibrancy of Gold Coast locations. Stage Mums is comedy in the glamorous underbelly of show biz.”
Comprising of 8 episodes approximately 7 minutes each, Stage Mums is a comedy about best friends Shaz and Trace, who will go to any length to make their daughters famous. Described as Kath and Kim, Dance Moms and Ab Fab, the web series is the brainchild of writer/performer Anna Waters-Massey.
“I feel like we’ve won the lottery,” she says in a press release. “Creating Stage Mums was such a labour of love for me and the whole team involved. In between auditions and performing various acting roles, I decided to write Stage Mums as a vehicle for myself and some friends. The cast and crew who came together to make it happen were amazing and I was determined to find a great platform to show the finished product. When Network Ten were interested in taking us on and supporting the product, it was like a dream come true. I am over the moon.”
Supporting Waters-Massey in the cast are Tara Page, Cleo Massey, Samantha Pearce, Gerry Connolly, Brooke Lee, Stephen Massey, Tracie Filmer, Christine Milo, Jessica Green and Kurt Coleman.
Stage Mums will premiere on Sunday 14th October at 8.30pm on ELEVEN., with an encore screening on Friday. It will also be available on TenPlay.
