The St Kilda Film Festival today announced he special screenings program for their 2018 season. Running from May 17 – 26, this year marks the festival’s 35th anniversary, and the 20th under the stewardship of festival director Paul Harris.
A specially curated season of Mexican short films will be showcased this year, courtesy of Mexico’s largest film festival, the Guanajuato International Film Festival (GIFF). Nina Rodríguez, GIFF Director of Programming, will be present at this year’s international guest. Filmmakers will have the opportunity to meet Rodríguez at the event, who will be offering up advice on international film competitions and the future of short filmmaking.
A David Batty Retrospective sees the acclaimed director (Bush Mechanics, Black As) reflect on almost four decades of filmmaking in remote Aboriginal Australia. Expect personal anecdotes interspersed with clips from his vast archive, including rarely seen gems from Manyu Wana (a Warlpiri Sesame Street), Cuz Congress, the iconic Bush Mechanics series, Black As and more.
The National Film & Sound Archive (NFSA) presents Right There On My TV: Re-discovering Australian music television from the 1970s, celebrating the likes of Countdown, Nightmoves, Bandstand and Thank God It’s Friday At The Zoo, along with unearthed clips from the archive and a very special panel of guests for a post-screening Q&A.
A special program for the whole family will also showcase visual content not found on TV screens, including both Australian short films and a selection from the Guanajuato International Film Festival.
