She was the beating heart of the apocalyptic These Final Hours and went toe to toe with Russ and Ryan in The Nice Guys. Now the Perth-born Angourie Rice has been cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, the upcoming Marvel/Sony co-production that will see the webhead cemented into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following his debut (or third at-bat, depending on how you count) in Captain America: Civil War.
Rice will join Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spidey, along with a staggeringly impressive supporting cast: Michael Keaton, Michael Keaton, Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Robert Downey Jr., Donald Glover, and Logan Marshall-Green, under the direction of Jon Watts (you should go watch Cop Car right now).
The film is currently shooting in Atlanta and, although no details regarding Rice’s character have been released yet, every pundit and his dog is betting on Gwen Stacey, which does put a bit of a down note on the news, considering how she ends up, canonically speaking.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scheduled for a July 2017 release. Rice will next be seen in the WA-shot Jasper Jones.
