Co written by David Willing and Beth King, the film stars Kestie Morassi (Wolf Creek) and Jane Badler (TV’s V) and is the frightening story of Natalie Paxton, a single mother and nurse, who falls mysteriously ill and struggles to stop her family from being destroyed.
Director Willing says “fans of horror and cinema alike can expect an exciting and terrifying ghost story with an intriguing mystery and plenty of scares in 90 minutes!”
Executive producer Konfir Gabo of Black Spade Productions financed the film which was produced by Vikki Blinks and David Willing along with co-producer Alice Chaston. Morassi is also credited as an executive producer.
Willing continues: “Sun Theatre being an art deco cinema built in 1938 is the perfect place to premier a horror film that is deeply influenced by 70’s and 90’s cinema. The fact they’ve previously premiered the likes of Tarantino’s Hateful 8, it’s great they’ve picked up Surrogate too.”
Morassi says: “We had a midnight tech screening at Sun Theatre just before post production was wrapped to check how the film played in a large room. It had such a great and scary atmosphere watching it in the old school theatre.”
Morassi and Jane Badler will be attending the World Premiere and along with director Willing will be doing a Q&A.
Surrogate will commence a regional release April – July with more information on screenings to come.
