Visibility and Vibrance: WIFT Vic Supports TGD Creatives with New Event

Women in Film and Television Victoria (WIFT Vic) is proud to support Playback: TGD Takes on Identity and Industry, a groundbreaking panel event amplifying the voices of trans and gender diverse (TGD) creatives across Victoria’s media industry.

Proudly presented in partnership with Trans and Gender Diverse Bendigo and Beyond, Playback will take place during Trans Awareness Week 2025, offering a powerful platform for regional and metropolitan TGD screen and media practitioners to connect, share stories, and spark new industry conversations.

“This is more than just a panel. It’s a creative gathering, a meeting of minds, and a celebration of TGD brilliance,” said Alex Riches from WIFT Vic. “Playback represents the kind of future-facing screen industry we’re actively working to build.”

Hosted by Benjamin MacEllen, Bendigo-based performer and advocate, the panel brings together some of the industry’s most inspiring voices:

  • Julie Peters – ABC media veteran and regional trailblazer
  • Bayley Turner – Intimacy coordinator and actor
  • Jean Tong – Writer/director (Heartbreak High, Safe Home, New Gold Mountain)
  • Mitch Nivalis – Regional filmmaker (Equal The Contest) and advocate

“By bridging generations and geographic divides, Playback empowers regional practitioners with greater visibility, mentorship, and access to industry networks.” said Riches.

Playback is proudly supported by Victoria’s Pride, a partnership between the Victorian Government and Midsumma Festival.
