Director Dery Sultana’s feature documentary explores promises of a better future of three brothers in a new foreign land. The Australian premiere of “WHO WOULD YOU TELL?”, which is co-produced by Fish Isle Films and Strada Reali has been an official selection at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival during July 2022.
The film tells the story of the brothers’ separation from their destitute family at a young age and sent to Tardun in Western Australia under the child migration scheme. What was supposed to be a second chance turned into a lifetime of regret, pain and missed opportunities that deeply affected their journey to adulthood. Fifty years on, Raphael, Peter and Manny reflect on their stolen childhood and how it shaped their entire life. Interviews and archive materials uncover memories of abuse, homesickness and severed family ties unravelling the historic failure of a scheme backed by two governments and the broken promises of the Catholic Organisation that received them.
