WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING: “Formidable, feisty and fun… Isla Roberts is a octogenarian force-of nature” … “A bonafide ripper of a documentary, from start to finish!” ……. “Kind, funny, insightful and tough”….“Plenty of great moments and more than a few laughs….. “Stunning aerial shots and outback beauty” …”…”Superbly made and intelligently structured.” “…remarkable and unintentionally radical.”

Adelaide, SA – October 11th, 2023 – Wallis Releasing, the new distribution arm of Wallis Cinemas, has made their first acquisition for Australian theatrical rights with the independent Australian festival hit documentary, ISLA’S WAY produced by Marion Pilowsky and Georgia Humphreys of Corner Table Productions.

The fastest selling session of the Adelaide Film Festival and a triumphant world premiere screening at the The Piccadilly cinema, ISLA’S WAY will launch theatrically through Wallis Releasing on November 9th 2023.

ISLA’S WAY Synopsis.

Cowboy. Rebel. Survivor. Grandmother. You’ll never forget meeting Isla.

Formidable grandmother Isla Roberts is adamant. She insists that although she’s not a lesbian, her girlfriend Susan is. In this tender, richly humorous portrait of an 87-year-old horse carriage driving champion, we learn what makes an ordinary life extraordinary. Straight-shooting Isla’s lived experience of rural Australia, raising a family in severe economic hardship, and finally coming out later in life, all make for a poignant documentary of a woman who’s well ahead of her time and refuses to be put in a box. Director Marion Pilowsky tracks Isla for an eventful, cathartic year with empathy and incisiveness.

ISLA’S WAY boasts a great soundtrack featuring tracks by Robbie Williams (“Can’t Stop Christmas”), Penguin Café Orchestra (“Music For A Found Harmonium”), iconic Australian comedy duo Scared Weird Little Guys (“Shopping and Parking”) and a classic Bob Dylan re-record (“Bob Dylan’s Dream”). As well as a stunning original score by London based composer and multi-instrumentalist Luis Almau.

ISLA’S WAY was directed Marion Pilowsky and produced by Georgia Humphreys and Marion Pilowsky. Wallis Releasing’s Programming Executive, Manda Flett, negotiated the deal to acquire ISLA’S WAY with producers Georgia Humphreys and Marion Pilowsky of Corner Table Productions Australia.
