This October 6th, the annual Sunshine Coast Film Festival will be presenting a number of Queensland premieres as part of its programme of award winning films.
Films that will make their debut in the Sunshine State are It Was Just an Accident, a French Iranian production that is France’s official nomination for next years Oscars in the Best International Feature category.
It’s the first time France has ever nominated a film not in the French language and it’s a must see. Made in secret, under the noses of the Iranian authorities, it’s a moral fable that is drama, thriller and dark comedy and won the Palme d’Or (Best Film) at the Cannes Film Festival.
Another Queensland premiere is the documentary Orwell 2+2=5, a French-U.S. co-production that is both a biography of George Orwell, the author of the ground breaking novel 1984 and how he came to write it as well as a compelling polemic about governments around the world that are increasing surveillance on its citizens both covertly and overtly.
Features from Scandinavia, Italy and France round out the month long film lovers feast as well as home grown documentaries like Journey Home David Gulpilil and DEEPER mean that the Festival has something for everyone.
Films are being presented at Caloundra, Nambour and Noosa throughout the month of October.
“Normally people in this region have to travel to Brisbane for this kind of lineup and given the Brisbane International Film Festival doesn’t even look like happening this year Brisbane audiences will have to come to us” says Festival Director Murray Power.
