Bigtoon Animations, the creator of Peggy & Molly – The Animated Series, has just released the first ‘teaser trailer’ at a launch event on the Gold Coast with 400+ fans

The beloved real-life friendship between Peggy, an English Staffy, and Australian magpie Molly, is coming to screens in Peggy & Molly – The Animated Series, an Australian animated children’s series inspired by the duo that captured hearts around the world.

Already generating significant industry buzz, the production has attracted one of the most impressive line-ups of Australian comedy, television and entertainment talent ever assembled for a family animated series.

The star-studded cast includes Australian drama icon Jane Hall, comedy favourites Jimeoin, Lawrence Mooney, Ben Price, Bev Killick, Jim Jefferies, Sam Taunton, Peter Helliar, Alice Fraser, Nikki Osborne, The Umbilical Brothers, Mahalia Browne, Mike Goldstein and Morry Morgan, Australia’s world-class illusionist Cosentino, and Channel 9 reporter Brigitte O’Brien as narrator.

Created by renowned Australian content creator and Bigtoon Animation Head of Studio Ken Cantrill, the series expands on the authentic story audiences have followed for years, introducing new adventures, humour and a colourful cast of characters inspired by Peggy, Molly, Ruby and their real-life experiences.

Cantrill said the calibre of talent involved reflects the ambition behind the project and the importance of creating characters that resonate across generations.

“This has to be one of the best casts seen in recent times, if not ever, for an animated children’s series,” said Cantrill.

“The plan was always to empower comedians to bring their own spin to the characters they are playing.”

“Having comedians as voice actors brings strong timing, unique character voices, improvisation and genuine audience connection. Kids enjoy the characters, parents enjoy the performers, and from an IP perspective it creates enormous marketability. That was my goal from the beginning,” he said.

Juliette Wells, owner of Peggy & Molly, said the animated adaptation remains faithful to the heart of the original story that resonated with millions of people worldwide.

“At its heart, this story is about love, kindness, acceptance, and embracing our differences. The series explores friendship, resilience, empathy, and emotional connection, while reminding audiences that what makes us different can also bring us together,” said Wells.

“As the Peggy and Molly universe continues to grow, the emotional heart of the original story remains the same – celebrating friendship, compassion, and the idea that our differences are part of what makes life beautiful,” she said.

Peggy & Molly – The Animated Series celebrates friendship, family, loyalty and the joy that comes from the most unexpected bonds. With humour, warmth and authentic Australian spirit, the series is designed to connect with children while also giving parents a cast and comedy sensibility they can enjoy alongside them.

The official series trailer launches today, Friday 18 September, at a premiere event in Queensland with 400 fans, with anticipation already building around the project’s creative direction, voice cast and international market potential.
