Head of Screen NSW Kyas Hepworth said this new initiative is geared towards propelling the career of a mid-career to established First Nations screen practitioner with a self-directed program of career advancement.
“There is considerable untapped First Nations talent across the NSW screen industry. This exciting new fellowship aims to unearth this talent and open the door for the recipient to pursue the career development direction of their choosing,” Ms Hepworth said.
“Screen NSW is dedicated to increasing First Nations representation in the creative industries and ensuring the legacy of storytelling is continued on screen. This targeted support for NSW First Nations screen practitioners is a signal of our continued commitment in this space.”
The First Nations Screen Fellowship will provide $25,000 in financial support to one recipient to undertake a self-directed professional development plan, which may include the development of a new work, research and travel, mentorship, or industry exposure.
Screen NSW welcomes Expression of Interest (EOI) proposals from mid-career to established screen practitioners, identifying as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, and living in NSW.
EOI proposals for the First Nations Screen Fellowship will be accepted between 11 May until 30 June 2023.
