Surrealist South Australian comedy duo “tim&TIM!” are making waves in the local film scene with their charming debut indie feature “PACO” – crafted on a shoestring budget of just $30,000. Directed by Tim Carlier and produced by Tim Hodgson (familiar faces in the Adelaide Fringe Festival), the offbeat comedy has garnered attention and acclaim at prestigious festivals including SXSW Sydney, International Film Festival Rotterdam, Adelaide Film Festival, and more.
“PACO” tells the metafictional comic odyssey of a sound recordist in search of his most crucial possession – his radio microphone. The duo enlisted the talents of over 100 local cast and crew members, infusing the film with the unique spirit of Adelaide’s creative scene. Adding to the appeal, the film features music by The Empty Threats – an emerging five-piece queer post-punk/noise-rock band also gaining a cult-following for their catchy, electric vibes.
After recently signing on with Gold Coast-based distributor Pinnacle Films, event theatrical screenings are now planned for “PACO” across New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, and Tasmania for early May. Notably, in partnership with South Australian craft beer company Pirate Life – Cinema & Beer screenings will offer audiences a unique experience combining craft South Australian cinema with craft South Australian brews.
The Tims’ debut feature promises to delight audiences with its blend of eccentric humour and heart. As the film continues to captivate audiences, “PACO” reminds us of the often-forgotten role that sound plays in orienting us within the space represented in movies. The result is a whimsical journey that not only captivates but also prompts contemplation about the intricate ways in which sound shapes our cinematic experiences.
