Netflix film The Big Fix will call NSW home, with production set to create 500 local jobs and contribute an estimated $55 million to the state’s screen industry and broader economy.

This major international production – starring Mark Wahlberg (The Family Plan, Uncharted) and Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal, The Night Of) alongside Chin Han (Mortal Kombat I & II, Skyscraper), Zlatko Buric, Bobo Le, Paul G. Raymond (Black Mirror), Nuha Jes Izman (Yellowjackets), and Vipin Sharma (Monkey Man, Hotel Mumbai, Sahela) – will be filmed primarily in Sydney from April.

Inspired by a true story and based on a book written by Brett Forrest, The Big Fix follows a former Interpol cop in a bureaucratic role at FIFA who uncovers an international match-fixing scandal and launches a high-stakes mission to stop whoever is behind it. His target: a passionate hustler who joins forces with Chinese Triads to earn millions of dollars rigging football games across the world. As they start to circle one another, a high-octane, globetrotting cat-and-mouse thriller ensues – pitting two defiant, determined men against each other.

The Big Fix is directed by Baltasar Kormákur (Apex, Everest, Adrift), written by Guy Bolton and Justin Haythe and produced by Baltasar Kormákur, Peter Chernin and David Ready for Chernin Entertainment, with Bennett Walsh and Jenno Topping. Author Brett Forrest serves as an Executive Producer along with Chris Eaton, the Melbourne-born police officer who inspired Forrest’s book.

Securing The Big Fix is a significant win for the NSW screen industry and the state’s broader economy, with employment opportunities for local cast and crew, along with hospitality, catering, security and other on-set operations.

Production of The Big Fix in NSW is made possible through the support of Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund, alongside the Australian Government’s Location Offset.

Baltasar Kormákur, The Big Fix Director said: “For a story like The Big Fix, where the tension moves across continents and the world itself becomes part of the narrative, we needed locations that could deliver both scale and authenticity. New South Wales offers exactly that. The landscape, facilities and the calibre of local crews are exceptional, and provide the perfect foundation for this production. We are very grateful to the NSW Government and the Australian Government for their support through the Location Offset in helping bring this project to life.”

John Graham, NSW Minister for the Arts said: “It’s fantastic to see a team of this calibre filming in NSW, the leading state for screen production in Australia. Welcome back to Baltasar Kormákur and Mark Wahlberg who are becoming regulars here in Sydney. It’s great to see Netflix continue to bring their screen projects to NSW, with the economic benefits felt well beyond the screen industry.”

Debra Richards, APAC Director of Production Policy for Netflix, said: “We’re excited to be bringing The Big Fix to New South Wales, working with world-class talent and local crews on a production of this scale. With the support of the NSW and Federal Governments, projects like this help strengthen Australia’s screen industry and create opportunities and career pathways for local talent.”

Established in 2020 and administered by Screen NSW, the Made in NSW Fund is designed to support the advancement of NSW as a destination for international and local feature films and major television drama programs.
