Bunya has received a total of 29 nominations in this year’s AACTA Awards, the most ever by a production company in an Awards year.  Over the history of the AACTA Awards, the three Mystery Road television series have received a total of 40 nominations making it the most nominated TV franchise ever.   The film Mystery Road also received 5 AACTA nominations and the sequel film Goldstone 6 AACTA nominations.

The Mystery Road brand, which is represented internationally by All3Media, has also been seen in more than 30 territories around the world, making it one of our most successful television exports.

To add to the company’s hugely successful few weeks, Co-Managing Director David Jowsey was awarded the 2022 Don Dunstan award at the recent Adelaide Film Festival.

In the 2022 AACTA Awards, Bunya Productions has received 15 nominations for Mystery Road Origin, 13 for The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson (a co-production with Oombarra Productions) and True Colours has been nominated for Best Mini-Series.

Mystery Road Origin has also received two C21 Drama Awards nominations for Best Returning series (alongside international series such as Succession and Stranger Things) and Best Casting.

Bunya Co-Managing Director and Producer Greer Simpkin said: “The AACTA nominations are an amazing recognition for our very talented creative collaborators, many of whom have worked with us across the years and have become like our extended family. It is also incredible that Leah Purcell has four AACTA nominations for The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson (Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Actress and as a Producer for Best Film). This is a phenomenal achievement.”

In another proud moment and an achievement to be marked – the ABC has announced that Mystery Road Origin is the highest rating drama launch ever on ABC iview.

Bunya Producer and Co-Managing Director David Jowsey was honoured with the Don Dunstan Award at the 2022 Adelaide Film Festival for his services to the screen industry. David said: “It is humbling to be named amongst the remarkable previous winners. To be recognised for doing something that you love is an absolute honour.”
