Debuts With Star-Studded First Project Vegas: A Love Story From Ramin Bahrani

Light Assembly, a newly formed impact driven entertainment studio founded by filmmaker Amman Abbasi and journalist author Jeffrey E. Stern, officially launches this week at the Sundance Film Festival.

The company debuts with its first feature, VEGAS: A LOVE STORY, a romantic thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ramin Bahrani. The film begins production this week in Nevada and stars Maika Monroe, Brandon Sklenar, Paul Dano, Michael Shannon, and Judy Greer.

Light Assembly focuses on developing narrative features, documentaries, and episodic series that pair cinematic ambition with social relevance. The studio is headquartered in Los Angeles and New York.

The launch coincides with notable milestones for both founders. Stern’s fifth book, THE WARHEAD, published this week by Penguin Random House / Dutton, examines the origins of the smart bomb with Publishers Weekly calling it “an enthralling and nuanced chronicle of modern warfare.” An Overseas Press Club Award–winning journalist, Stern is also the author of The 15:17 to Paris, adapted by Clint Eastwood and Warner Bros..

Abbasi recently earned his first Academy Award nomination for being on producing team of the HBO short documentary ARMED ONLY WITH A CAMERA: THE LIFE AND DEATH OF BRENT RENAUD directed by Craig Renaud. He is a Peabody Award–winning filmmaker whose prior work includes DAYVEON, which premiered at Sundance and received two Independent Spirit Award nominations.

“Launching at Sundance feels full circle, my debut film premiered here,” said Abbasi, whose work has also been supported by the Sundance Institute Screenwriting Labs. “With Light Assembly, we’re producing bold, commercially resonant work from the next generation of global auteurs.”

“Light Assembly was built on the belief that powerful storytelling can create both impact and entertainment without compromise,” Stern said. While at Sundance Film Festival, Stern will be signing copies of THE WARHEAD at Dolly’s Book Store, 510 Main Street, Park City, Utah, on Saturday, January 24th.
