Adelaide is set to welcome the prestigious Australia China International Film Festival (ACIFF) for the first time ever this year, running from November 14-21, 2024. Announced at the Beijing International Film Festival, ACIFF will bring Hollywood stars and Chinese film industry heavyweights to South Australia, celebrating the flourishing relationship between the Australian and Chinese film industries. The event marks a historic moment in Adelaide’s cultural scene, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of the city’s sister relationship with Qingdao, and promises to strengthen ties between the regions while showcasing the best of Australian and Chinese cinema.

The Australia China International Film Festival is delighted to announce the appointment of Hon Andrew Robb AO, former Australian Minister for Trade, Investment, and Tourism, as its new Honorary Chair. With an outstanding career that includes negotiating landmark Free Trade Agreements with China, South Korea, and Japan, and leading the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations, Mr. Robb brings a wealth of experience in fostering international relations, trade, and investment.

Mr. Robb’s extensive leadership spans corporate advisory, agriculture, and investment sectors, where he has consistently demonstrated his ability to bridge industries and cultures. His deep connection to South Australia is evident, having led national organisations from Adelaide for over 20 years, serving thousands of South Australian members. As Chair, Mr. Robb is poised to further enhance cultural and economic ties between Australia and China, leveraging the film festival as a dynamic platform for international collaboration.

In addition to welcoming Mr. Robb, the festival will also see the launch of an exciting new trilateral fund aimed at boosting film and media production across Australia, China, and Middle East. This fund, titled MCA Capital, will be officially announced during the festival with an initial $100 million secured, and plans to raise another $100 million. The first $100 million will be invested in local talent, productions, and startups, particularly in the fields of film technology and artificial intelligence.

By harnessing the Australia China International Film Festival as a key platform, the MCA Capital fund will enhance cultural exchange and create employment opportunities within the media industries of these three nations. This initiative is set to support the production of high-quality content while fostering innovation across the film and technology sectors.
