Melbourne based actor and filmmaker Josephine Croft, of Tenacious Stories, has won a prestigious Award of Merit Special Mention from The Best Shorts Film Competition. The award was given for Croft’s leading performance as Anne in the exciting short thriller, Grounded. Alone and trapped, Anne wakes up on an aeroplane only to discover she is being hunted. She must find a way to escape or die trying.

Previously Croft has been nominated for Best Australian Actress at the AFIN – International Film Festival for her intense performance in this role and taken out 7 other awards wins and 4 nominations across multiple categories, including best original music, cinematography, visual effects and best short.

Eamon Tracey from Take2IndieReview writes that Grounded features exceptional use of “claustrophobic dimensions of the aeroplane through imaginative angles and slow tracking camera movements. Flashes of red and other ominous lighting, arranged and captured by Director of Photography Marcus Cropp, maintained a suspenseful atmosphere throughout.”

The Best Shorts Competition recognises film, television, videography and new media professionals who demonstrate exceptional achievement in craft and creativity, and those who produce standout entertainment or contribute to profound social change.

In winning a Best Shorts Award, Tenacious Stories joins the ranks of other high-profile winners of this internationally respected award including Academy Award winner Mr Hublot from Laurent Witz, 2021 Academy Award-nominee Doug Roland for the short film Feeling Through, Disney Interactive’s Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story and so many more.

Rick Prickett, who chairs The Best Shorts Competition, had this to say about the latest winners, “Best Shorts is not an easy award to win. Entries are received from around the world from powerhouse companies to remarkable new talent. The Best Shorts Competition helps set the standard for craft and creativity. The judges were pleased with the exceptionally high quality of entries.”
