Each of the filmmakers has a unique story and connection to the Coast, shot entirely on the Central Coast with Central Coast locals for almost the entire cast, crew and even the musicians who scored the films.
Director of MOTHER TONGUE Glenn Fraser suggests that “This is a real boon for regional filmmaking. A modest investment from a local council has proved to be the pebble in the pond that has generated a ripple effect to galvanise an entire community of creatives here on the Coast.”
Writer and producer of MOTHER TONGUE Amelia Foxton adds that “With the Central Coast Studios in planning stages here, and Disney Studios in Sydney packed out for the foreseeable future, we want to be able to offer not just a staging post for production here, but a creative hub, too.”
The three films are:
Kaye Harrison’s documentary, MUSIC CENTRAL
Toni Houston and Sarah Beard’s documentary, BOUDDI WILD SWIM
and
Amelia Foxton and Glenn Fraser’s comedic-horror film, MOTHER TONGUE

The films are each approximately 35 minutes in length – two documentaries and one narrative – and there will be live music by local musicians, red carpet photos, filmmaker Q&As and a mixer with the cast and crew following the films.
MOTHER TONGUE star Stephen Hunter is one of Australia’s finest character actors. Known as the dwarf ‘Bombur’ in Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT TRILOGY, Hunter leapt at the opportunity to be part of the film. “I loved the idea of being able to craft a character from Amelia Foxton’s scary and deliciously funny script. It offered an embarrassment of riches and the vibe on the Central Coast was terrific. When do we go back to shoot the series?”
Hunter will be at the festival for the MOTHER TONGUE Q&A and red carpet photos.
