Dendy Newtown is thrilled to announce a special new program entitled Celluloid Dreams, which will celebrate the reel celluloid film experience. Our programmers have sourced the original 35mm prints of seven classic films from the likes of Martin Scorsese, Oliver Stone, Stanley Kubrick, and more that are sure to delight the cinephiles of Sydney.

The special 35mm program kicks off on April 26 with our screening of Scorsese’s gangster masterpiece Goodfellas and concludes on December 6 with a 50th anniversary screening of Andrei Tarkovsky’s sci-fi classic Solaris. The program also includes Stone’s Natural Born Killers (June 7), Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon (July 19), John Landis’ The Blues Brothers (August 30), Francis Ford Coppola’s The Conversation (September 27), and a special Halloween screening of Kubrick’s The Shining.

Projecting a film in 35mm is like projecting a piece of history and something many consider to be the authentic cinema experience. There’s a silkiness and depth to 35mm that you don’t get on straight digital. With Celluloid Dreams, the movie lovers of Sydney will be able to experience these seven films in the way they was originally intended to be seen by these iconic filmmakers.
