Day 1: Creative Documentary: Strengths and Challenges
Kicking-off the festival program the industry comes together to discuss strategies for the future. Indigenous historian Professor John Maynard and CDRC Director Professor Tom Murray present Murray’s award-winning film The Skin of Others at 6:30pm.
Day 2: Stories and Histories
Members of the public can get mentorship from experts and academics in collecting oral histories. The session ‘Indigenising the Historical Narrative’ is with Archibald winner Blak Douglas, and leading Indigenous filmmakers Gillian Moody and Pauline Clague who was awarded the Stanley Hawes Award in 2015 for her contribution to Australian documentaries and was the 2020 Natalie Miller Fellow. A screening of the film Ablaze directed By Alec Morgan and Tiriki Onus begins at 6:30pm.
Day 3: Culture, Nature, and Climate Crisis
Through the personal practices of our esteemed panelists we will hear how drawing has informed their art and knowledge of the world and drawing as powerful form of documentary-making. Panelists include globally renowned architect Richard Leplastrier, and acclaimed artists Anthony Cahill, Nathalie Hartog-Gautier and Anna Madeleine Raupach. Screenings with filmmakers Jennifer Peedom (Mountain) and Nick Robinson (Australia’s Ocean Odyssey) begin at 6:45pm
Day 4: Families, Fakes, and Documentary Forms
Experts in the field of media and ethics discuss how deepfake media interventions challenge notions of documentary authenticity. With globally recognised creative Matt Hermans, multi-awarded filmmaker Anna Broinowski, journalist/academic Sacha Molitorisz and leading screen theorist Craig Hight. The festival concludes with screenings and an awards ceremony from The Black Snapper International Film Festival at 6:30pm
