Caitlin Yeo: Every Little Thing (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Every Little Thing was inspired by Terry Masear’s 2015 memoir Fastest Things on Wings: Rescuing Hummingbirds in Hollywood. By becoming a volunteer hummingbird rehabber, Masear arrives at a larger understanding of the nature of existence. This soaring film captures the painful journeys from injury to first flight shared by hummingbirds and rehabbers alike. In her review for the Hollywood Reporter, Sheri Linden wrote that ‘Every Little Thing is not just a deeply affecting portrait—it offers compassion as a way of life.’

Every Little Thing is directed by Sally Aitken and produced by Bettina Dalton for Wildbear Entertainment. Caitlin Yeo provides the magical Hollywood score featuring Veronique Serret (violin), Jason Noble (clarinet), Sean Carey (guitar and ukelele) and the composer herself (accordion and flute).

I fell in love with hummingbirds while scoring Every Little Thing. This big screen documentary is replete with stunning slow-motion footage of hummingbirds by wildlife photographer Ann Johnson Prum and offers a meditation on compassion and kindness. It demanded a score that embraced the daily miracles of caring for these tiny birds. Each bird that Terry Masear cares for has a distinct personality reflected in the score. – Caitlin Yeo

I worked with a long-time collaborator of mine, Caitlin Yeo, a beautiful female composer from Australia. We’d have these great conversations in which she’d let me talk for ages, and then she somehow transcribed and consolidated the ideas.

And she’s like, ‘Is this what you’re reaching for?’ And I’m like, ‘That’s exactly what I’m reaching for.’ She had gravitated to the flight and the bird’s wings as an idea, and she knew that she wanted violins to be in the score.
