BIFF 2022 is lighting up screens across Brisbane from October 27 to November 6, 2022 and puts the incredible attendance down to the combination of the stellar line-up and program of events, along with the appetite for festivals to be back with no restrictions.

It was a glittering start as BIFF saw cast and crew, Krew Boylan, Daniel Webber, Celeste Barber, Thomas Campbell, Todd Lasance hit the carpet at Brisbane’s Powerhouse for Opening Night Queensland Premiere; Seriously Red.

Guests flocked to the World Premiere of A League of Her Own, an inspiring, insightful documentary follows the Queensland Maroons Women’s Rugby League Team and also the World Premiere of Beyond the Reef, a documentary of the most beautiful places in the world, Far North Queensland.

There was also a lot to celebrate for audiences with the RIDE Shorts Gala; six inspiring and inventive short films created via Screen Queensland’s RIDE Shorts Initiative.

Film Fantastic CEO Josh Martin is delighted that in the first weekend, attendance has already surpassed the total audience last year.

“BIFF places a spotlight on our thriving industry in South East Queensland, celebrating Australian and International cinema and the art of filmmaking and it is wonderful to see the audience support film here in Brisbane.

“This year’s Festival has combined world-class Australian and independent cinema with some of the most hotly anticipated festival favourites direct from overseas and we are proud to deliver Brisbane the film festival it deserves, he adds.

Dr Belinda Burns, Chief Creative Officer of Screen Queensland says, “Screen Queensland is delighted to see film fans embrace this year’s Brisbane International Film Festival with such enthusiasm. We congratulate the Film Fantastic team on their success and look forward to enjoying more of BIFF’s brilliant selection of international, Australian and Queensland-made cinema in the coming days.”
