As a nominee, TransAthletica is also eligible to win a Webby People’s Voice Award, which is voted online by fans across the globe. From now until April 20th, TransAthletica fans can cast their votes at vote.webbyawards.com.

Created by the team behind Rainbow History Class (@rainbowhistoryclass), TransAthletica follows the story of Rudy Jean Rigg as they explore the unique challenges faced by trans people in sport, asking questions like, how do we define a person’s gender, or what determines a “normal” level of hormones, and how we can change sport systems to be less gendered? The series launched in the middle of the 2022 Australian Federal Election period, of which transgender inclusion in sport was a major election issue. TransAthletica has accumulated well over 2.6M views and 229K likes organically from scratch and its impact also moved off-platform and into mainstream media, launching across televisions around the country, setting a standard for including transgender voices in the public conversation.

And a Webby nomination could not come at a better time. We’re well aware we’re the underdog in this fight. Anyone going up against Jimmy Fallon is! But TransAthletica is an underdog story, full of incredible underdog athletes who continue to play, even when the game is stacked against them. So in the spirit of the underdog, please help us win a Webby and vote.

Winners will be announced on Tuesday, April 25, 2023, and honoured in a star-studded show at Cipriani Wall Street. Winners will have an opportunity to deliver one of The Webby Awards’ famous 5-Word Speeches.
