“Daisy,” a poignant Australian short film penned and starred in by Cassidy Krygger, has achieved remarkable success on the international stage. Since its release in March, the film has garnered 15 awards from global film festivals, including the Cannes World Film Festival.

“Daisy” also claimed the two top honours at the Melbourne Cineverse Film Festival: Best Australian Film and Best Actress for Cassidy Krygger. It’s the fifth best actress award for the 29 year old, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and was inspired by her own battle with MS to follow her passions and write this deeply personal film.

Now, “Daisy” is a contender for the 2025 AACTA Award for Best Short Film.

Directed by emerging talent Alyssa Scott and inspired by Krygger’s great-grandmother’s true story, “Daisy” transports viewers to 1930. The film tells the story of Daisy, a young Catholic woman facing a pivotal moment after discovering she’s pregnant with the child of her Protestant lover, Charlie (Krygger’s great-grandfather). Confronted by societal pressures and family expectations, Daisy navigates a path of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery.

“I wanted to honour my great-grandmother’s legacy,” says Cassidy. “The film features personal touches like my production company logo, which is Daisy’s real signature pulled from her 1930 marriage certificate, and I wear her necklace in the film—an heirloom that has been passed down through generations.”

Director Alyssa Scott and the dedicated cast and crew have brought “Daisy” to life at Barwon Park Mansion, a National Trust Property built in the 1800s in Winchelsea.

Cassidy, who has been candid about her Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis and advocates for those facing similar challenges, reflects on her journey: “Initially, I feared I’d never act again. Winning these awards feels like a dream come true!”

“Daisy” enjoyed two sold-out screenings in June and is currently in development for a feature adaptation.
