Elvis, 3000 Years of Longing and Poker Face have dominated the 2023 APDG Awards silver screen nominations.
Nominees for Elvis are Catherine Martin and Karen Murphy (production design), Jason Baird (hair and make-up), Jessica Barrell, Samantha Dabrowski and Bowen Ellames (graphic design), Beverly Dunn (set decoration), Josh Simmonds (visual effects) and Damien Drew, Tuesday Stone, Christopher Tangney and Matt Wynne (art direction).
Nominees for 3000 Years of Longing are Roger Ford (production design), Sophie Nash and Nicholas Dare (art direction), Annet Mackie (concept art) and Lisa Thompson (set decoration). Poker Face picked up three nominations, including Gypsy Taylor (costume design), Jan Edwards (set decorator) and Lynne O’Brien (hair and make-up).
In the production design for a feature film category, nominees include Felicity Abbott for The Invitation and Bethany Ryan for You Won’t Be Alone. Costume design on a feature film nominees include Justine Seymour for True Spirit, Tess Schofield and Cris Baldwin for Thirteen Lives and Lien See Leong for Blueback.
In the digital design/VFX category, Stuart White was nominated for Interceptor and Glenn Melenhorst for Lyle, Lyle Crocodile. Other feature film nominees include Dale J. Mackie (art direction) for Thor Love and Thunder and Rose Saffioti (hair and make-up) for Blaze.
La Brea (Season 2) and Bali 2002 both received two nominations in the small screen categories. Nominees for La Brea are Carrie Kennedy and Ben Morieson (production design) and Kate Saunders (art direction). Nominees for Bali 2002 are Tim Ferrier (production design) and Tom Coppola (set decoration).
In the production design for a television production category, nominees include Fiona Donovan for The Twelve and Jonathon Oxlade for Beep and Mort. The costumes design for a television production nominees are Vanessa Loh for Black Snow, Rita Carmody for Heartbreak High, Edie Kurzer for Irreverent and Terri Lamera for Mystery Road Origin.
Concept artist nominees include Matt Hatton for Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power and Daniel J Burns for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Crazy Fun Park took two nominations for graphic design, Stephanie Leigh and Phoenix Waddell. Title design nominees are Zenon Kohler for Halloween Ends and Nathan Su for Slant.
The emerging design categories are consistently popular, as they give emerging designers an opportunity to share their work with the broader design community and screen industry. This year’s emerging design screen nominees are Lufan Shi for Occam’s Razor, Pernell Marsden for Small, Amelia Hutchinson for Starlings of the Hyperreal and Bethany Hewitt for Thallium Enthusiasts.
APDG President Michael Scott-Mitchell said peer acknowledgement and support were profoundly important to members of the guild and a vital component in building a national design community.
