More than 50 entries were judged by a panel of Australian Cinematographers Society Judges, with Gold Plaque winners becoming finalists in the ACS National Awards in May 2023.

The ceremony was hosted by Darwin’s own Rob Collins, with Guest of Honour,  four-times Academy Award nominated cinematographer John Seale AM ACS ACS.

This year Northern Territory cinematographers took away a record Twenty Gold Plaques across categories as diverse as Short Film, News & Current Affairs, Documentary and Drama.

ABC Cinematographer Mitchell Woolnough, who is currently based in Taiwan with the ABC, won two Gold Plaques in the Current Affairs category. Mitchell Woolnough’s entry Dead on Arrival received the coveted Judges Award for the Best of Show.

The volume of entries and the number of Gold Plaques awarded this year, highlights the increased depth and cross section of work now being developed for screen right across the Northern Territory” said ACS National Vice President Andrew Hyde “Screen content is now being produced to the highest quality by Northern Territory cinematographers all over the world.”
