Independent Australian-Bosnian filmmaker Saidin Salkic launches his 40th film in Melbourne on 17 October 2026

Independent Australian-Bosnian filmmaker and artist Saidin Salkic has completed his 40th film, 21st Century Monster, which will launch publicly at Library at The Dock, Docklands, Melbourne, on Saturday 17 October 2026 at 5:00pm.

The completion of 21st Century Monster marks a major milestone in an extraordinary independent filmmaking practice developed across nearly two decades.

Salkic’s films have been presented in major Australian and international film and arts contexts, including the Sarajevo Film Festival, Adelaide Film Festival, ACMI, the Southeast European Film Festival in Los Angeles, and the Film-Makers’ Cooperative in New York.

His cinema has received substantial critical and media attention in Australia and internationally, including coverage through SBS World News, ABC Radio National, The Age, Herald Sun, CNN Balkans and Al Jazeera, alongside major critical writing in Senses of Cinema.

Writing on Salkic’s cinema, Senses of Cinema has described its “complexity, inventiveness and beauty”, characterised the collaboration between Salkic and legendary Australian actor, broadcaster and film critic John Flaus as “unique in Australian cinema”, and described My Heart Bled Like Niagara Falls as “a masterpiece.”
