A new teaser for the upcoming big screen adaptation of It made its way into our world during the MTV Awards. It’s pretty cool – mostly just a bit of character business regarding the Losers futzing around in a sewer mouth ,with a special focus on poor frail Eddie Kaspbrak (Jack Dylan Grazer) and class clown Richie “Trashmouth” Tozier (Finn Wolfhard) ragging on each other, plus the usual atmospheric folderol and a special appearance by everyone’s favourite child-eating clown, Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard).

What’s really coming together here is a real sense of place. They’ve clearly put a lot of effort into translating Stephen King’s fictional town of Derry, Maine onto the screen with all its landmarks intact. It’s not just Anytown, USA; it has a history, a culture, and a soul, deeply corrupt and rotted though it may be. Communicating that is crucial to getting the tone of the book across the medium gap, and it looks like they’ve pulled it off.

It hits Australian cinemas on September 7, 2017.
