The Hollywood Reporter is, ahem, reporting that Netflix has plunked down seven figures for a pitch from Australian director Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) and his co-writer, Harrison Query. Based on a true story, War Party will see Tom Hardy play a Navy SEAL, which is the sort of thing he seems to enjoy.
Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Films will produce, continuing their relationship with Hardy following their collaboration on Taboo.
That’s all the news at hand right now, but marrying Dominik’s gritty yet stylised visual aesthetic to a modern day military adventure should yield dividends, and Hardy going full macho is always a plus. No word on release date – this is a pitch, not even a script, so we’re a while out yet – but this is definitely a project worth keeping an eye on.
