Netflix has acquired the global rights to Casting JonBenet, the new documentary from Australian filmmaker Kitty Green.
Shot over the course of 15 months, Casting JonBenet is an examination of the murder of six-year-old beauty pageant queen JonBenet Ramsey in 1996. The crew traveled to Ramsey’s hometown of Boulder, Colorado, interviewing community members, friends and public figures in order to build up a kind of mosaic picture of the murder and the culture that has risen from it. It will premiere in the US Documentary Competition section of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival later this month, before going on to streaming and limited theatrical release later in the year.
Green’s previous film, Ukraine is not a Brothel, examined the activities and origin of the FEMEN group of feminist activists, notorious for their topless protests.
