While online games might have started to take on the epic feel of a Hollywood Blockbuster, there is no doubt we have missed the movies in 2020. So, let’s be optimistic and look forward to the possibility of a return to the cinema to see some awesome movies in 2021. The silver lining for the silver screen is that the delays to filming in 2020 mean that there is going to be a plethora of releases – if everything goes to plan.

The French Dispatch

The French Dispatch is a surefire contender for an Oscar – or so the buzz from the critics suggests. It is the next film from Wes Anderson, which he claims is a love letter to journalists. It is set in Paris, where an American newspaper has an outpost. There are three storylines threaded together in this one package.

There is the most amazing ensemble cast including Benicio del Toro, Tilda Swinton, Frances McDormand and more. If you want to get a feel for what the film might be like – the cast also includes Bill Murray and Owen Wilson.

The film is planned to be released on January 28th 2021.

Morbius

So, Jared Leto is joining the Marvel universe as Michael Morbeus. Morbeus is a biochemist who makes an error while experimenting, as he accidentally injests himself with blood. The consequences – it turns him into a form of vampire. The comic books promise that Morbeus will get to face Spiderman in future films – which adds extra excitement to the start of this franchise.

The film is planned for release on March 18th 2021.

No Time to Die

You could be forgiven for thinking that this film has been and gone. It seems to have been due for release for at least a year or more. However, there have been some serious problems that have stalled progress, from injuries to cast members and then the small matter of a global pandemic. Fortunately, nothing can stop Bond from having his day and we think (hope?) that this will be released next year.

It is due for release on April 2nd 2021

A Quiet Place Part II

The first A Quiet Place was a surprise hit considering the whole premise that no one can speak for fear of being eaten by a mystery predator. Emily Blunt returns, as she survived the first film, to look after her family. She takes them on a journey out of their safe (ish) zone and soon realises that the predators come in lots of shapes and sizes.

The release date is April 23rd 2021.

Last Night in Soho

Imagine if you slipped back in time to the 1960s. This fun filled film takes an epic turn and becomes some sort of horror-filled nightmare – where nothing is as it seems. The combination of nostalgia and horror could have your head spinning – but at least you will be soothed by an appearance by the late Diana Rigg – a true ’60s icon.

This film will be released on April 23rd 2021.

Black Widow

She’s dead, right? Are you thinking what we are thinking? She died in Avengers: Endgame.

Well, she can have her first stand-alone film because filmmakers have the power to go back in time. Scarlett Johnasson gets to play the Black Widow after she returns home after the events of Captain America: Civil War. She is forced to deal with a whole load of fallout that will make for some exciting action, we guess.

This film will be released May 7th 2021.

Fast and Furious 9

What used to be a load of petrol heads driving fast with a loose storyline has morphed into a group of racers with super powers. Well, sort of. They certainly have insane abilities to save the world against enemies like the delightfully evil Jakob – the deadly assassin that seems to bother them a lot.

If you are an F and F fan then you will be able to see Han in this outing of the franchise.

The release date is May 28th 2021.

Top Gun: Maverick

Sure, you have to be over 40 to be excited by the return of Maverick to his fighter jet but we are certain that it is a film that will attract new fans. There is a mission to be fought, oh and Goose’s son turns up. Oh my, there will be tears.

If all goes to plan, you can enjoy this Top Gun mega blockbuster from July 2nd 2021.
