It’s the most wonderful time of the year – if you enjoy blood, viscera, creatures, killers, and generally having the bejeezus scared out of you. The Monster Fest Travelling Sideshow is hitting Event Cinemas George Street from March 9 – 11, 2018.
Boasting a mix of old faves and new classics, local genre fare and overseas gems, the three day spooktacular (horror puns are fun – sue us) is sure to have something in the menu for even the most discerning gorehound.
Highlights this year include:
The Strangers: Prey at Night (Australian Premiere)
The sequel to 2008’s The Strangers sees a family’s road trip take a dangerous turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park to stay with some relatives and find it mysteriously deserted. Under the cover of darkness, three masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test the family’s every limit as they struggle to survive.
Pyewacket (Sydney Premiere)
A teenage girl turns to Black Magic to release her anger following the death of her father, evoking the spirit of a witch to kill her mother.
Living Space (World Premiere)
An Australian couple’s car breaks down in the German countryside. Taking refuge in an isolated farmhouse, they are thrust into a supernatural nightmare and must battle malevolent forces led by an undead Nazi general if they wish to survive the night.
Rabbit (Sydney Premiere)
A medical student is haunted by visions of her twin sister’s violent abduction. Convinced she is still alive, she discovers her fate is intrinsically linked to a ‘secret society’ that likes to watch. If she wants to see her sister again she’ll have to go through with a series of strange experiments.
Night of the Living Dead (4K Restoration)
The best possible quality print of George A. Romero’s immortal 1968 classic. You may be down with the zombie apocalypse, but if you’ve never seen patient zero, you’re missing out. And even if you have seen it, you;ve seen it ooking this good. After years of dodgy out of copyright DVD and VHS releases, this is original and best as it was meant to be seen.
The Monster Squad
Directed by Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps) and co-written by Shane Black (Lethal Weapon, The Nice Guys), this ’80s classic sees a group of kids come together to battle the forces of evil in the form of Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, the Wolf Man, the Gill-Man, and the Mummy! This lovingly crass tribute to the classic Universal monster pantheon features top notch creature effects by the late Stan Winston.
And that’s just scratching the surface (with broken, grave-dirt-caked fingernails). This is going to be a great weekend for those with a taste for the macabre. For full details, (severed) head on over to the official site.
Another awesome line up! Excited ;)
