The sixth annual edition of Melbourne Webfest, Australia’s international web series festival, is imminent. Running from 28 June – 1 July at the State Library of Victoria, Deakin Edge Federation Square and the Jasper Hotel, the festival will screen a massive roster of 85 series from 16 different countries.
Opening Night takes place at the Jasper Hotel, and this year features Australian web series creator Julie Kalceff (Starting From Now) as keynote speaker. Meanwhile, series screenings will take place at the State Library of Victoria Village Roadshow Theatrette.
This year’s Industry Development Day includes an Acting Masterclass with Phil Hayden from Howard Fine Acting Studio, a session on Story World Architecture with John Cabrera, and a Writing Masterclass with Warwick Holt (Bruce, The Project) while industry panels will include such topics as audience strategies, diversity, writing for the web and blockbuster series.
Festival Director Steinar Ellingsen said, “The 2018 screening program is our biggest and undoubtedly the best yet. The craft and talent across the Official Selection, Australian and International Spotlight and the Student Showcase is second to none. There are more professional development opportunities, with more conference panels, workshops and masterclasses. There are more awards. And, of course, the incredible excitement of Pitch iview is back.”
