Good news, everyone! Deadline is reporting that Matt Reeves, having just finished up on War for the Planet of the Apes, has been tapped to slide his butt into Ben Affleck’s recently vacated director’s chair on the upcoming solo DCEU Batman movie.

That is a solid call on Warner’s part. Reeves delivered on Cloverfield and Let Me In, and the Apes series is really going from strength to strength – there’s no reason to doubt he’s gonna bring the thunder on this year’s monkey-centric blockbuster.

Oddly, it also marks the second time Reeves has followed in Tim Burton’s footsteps, who helmed not only Batman and Batman Returns, but also 2001’s much maligned, Marky Mark starring Planet of the Apes. Hopefully Reeves won’t follow this trend to its logical conclusion by becoming absolutely crap in the back half of his career.
