While we wait with bated breath for the shot-and-completed Black Widow to finally hit cinemas in a safer, less-COVID-hazardous world, and rue the delays on the upcoming Disney + series The Falcon And Winter Soldier, WandaVision and Hawkeye, Marvel has opted to help us out a little by offering sneak peeks at their new series Marvel 616, which digs deep into unexpected places on the comic book side of things. The series will be made up of separate, free-standing documentaries, with each helmed by a unique filmmaker, who will “explore the intersections of storytelling, pop culture, and fandom within the Marvel Universe,” according to the press release.
The first sneak peek is at the ep “Higher, Further, Faster”, which is directed by actor/director Gillian Jacobs (the brilliant star of Community and the cracking Netflix series Love), which shines a light on the trailblazing women of Marvel Comics, and the different ways in which the publishing giant has fore-fronted stories of inclusion and diversity. See below for your first look!
The second sneak peek is from “Lost and Found,” which follows actor and comedian Paul Scheer’s (Black Monday, The Good Place, Big Mouth) down-the-rabbit-hole journey into the very strange world of Marvel’s lesser known and largely forgotten characters. See below for your first look!
There is no release date set yet for Marvel 616, but hopefully it will drop sooner rather than later on Disney +.
