Josh Lawson’s new niche seems to be playing iconic Australians. Fresh from his turn as the titular larrikin in Hoges, he’s at it again, stepping into the shoes of Aussie one-shot-Bond George Lazenby in Becoming Bond.
Hark to the tale – true-ish, it seems – of the Queanbeyan car dealer hand-picked to replace Sean Connery in the James Bond franchise, only to throw it all away. Lawson plays Lazenby in the flashback scenes, and that’s the man himself narrating his tale, which seems to take in all the common touchpoints of sleazy ’70s Australian nostalgia.
Now, this is a Hulu Original documentary, due to debut on May 20. But there’s a problem with that – Hulu isn’t (legitimately) available in Australia as yet. Hopefully we’ll have some news about an Australian release for Becoming Bond sooner rather than later.
