Oscar winner Jared Leto has signed on to play pop art legend Andy Warhol in Warhol, an upcoming biopic. the film will be written by The Wolf of Wall Street scribe, Terrence Winter, based on the eponymous 1989 book by Victor Bokris.
Leto is also producing the film with Michael de Luca, whose credits include Moneyball and Captain Phillips.
This has positives and negatives. On the negative side (for many people) is Leto, who may be a gifted actor but is also a bit of a prat given to sending his co-stars condoms and animal corpses as part of his “method”. Still, Warhol himself was nothing if not a prankster, and walking the line between “eccentric genius” and “insufferably pretentious git” was pretty much his stock in trade for the entire arc of his career.
Warhol has been previously portrayed on screen by David Bowie, Jared Harris, Crispin Glover, and even Bill Hader. Cary Elwes will play him in the upcoming The Billionaire Boys Club.
