After an extended period overseas with films like Eye Of The Beholder and Easy Virtue, writer/director, Stephan Elliott, has been happily reacquainting himself with Australia lately, first with the successful 2011 gut-buster, A Few Good Men, and now with the just-announced Flammable Children, which will shoot in Queensland with Guy Pearce and Radha Mitchell, and is officially pitched as “a comedy set on the sunny beaches of Australia in the mid-1970s.”

The big names, however, aren’t just in front of the camera, with Elliott backed by a host of high profile and award winning creatives, including producer, Al Clark; Oscar-nominated and BAFTA winning production designer, Colin Gibson (Mad Max: Fury Road); Oscar-winning costume designer, Lizzy Gardiner (Mission: Impossible II); BAFTA-nominated score composer, Guy Gross (Knowing); and Emmy Award nominated film editor, Sue Blainey (Lost, Mozart In The Jungle).

“Stephan’s previous films – Frauds, The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert and Welcome To Woop Woop – were all officially selected to screen at The Cannes Film Festival, with Priscilla winning the Prix du Public as well as an Academy Award for Best Costume Design,” says Screen Queensland CEO, Tracey Vieira. “Our local industry will significantly benefit from working on Flammable Children, and with their support, I am certain that Stephan can win another Academy Award and Prix du Public.”

Queensland has been quite the set attraction of late with Thor: Ragnarok starring Chris Hemsworth and Greg McLean’s Jungle starring Daniel Radcliffe set to shoot there later this year, and The Shallows with Blake Lively and Kong: Skull Island with Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston also recently shooting in the state.

Flammable Children will be released in 2017.
