The Christmas Movie is one of those essential ingredients, along with mince pies and the chocolate tin of our festive season. We all love a good comedy at Christmas, whether it is the romantic kind or a little anarchic slapstick. Then, there are those action films or tales of lessons learned. There is so much joy in gathering around the telly and sinking into a family favourite. Of course, one or two or more family members will be asleep before the closing credits – but that’s all part of the fun of the festive season.
With the Christmas Movie being so essential, we wanted to provide a quiz to test your knowledge. The graphic has thirteen films hidden within it. It is true to say that eleven of these are absolute festive favourites. Two are linked to Christmas, and we encourage a healthy and potentially lively debate about their place in the quiz! Yes, blowing up skyscrapers and running around in a vest is within the spirit of Christmas… how could you even argue that it isn’t?
You will have to be brilliant to get all thirteen correct answers. Only 20% of the people we have asked so far have been able to get a full house. Are you one of the 20%? (Yes, this is a gratuitous attempt to dare you into taking up our challenge… but you know you wanted to.)
While doing the quiz, testing yourself, and checking the answers is all good fun, why not gather family and friends around and make it an event. Put some Chrimbo classic tunes on in the background, put people into teams, set the clock running and offer exceptional prizes of chocolate and booze for the winners.
Whether there is a green and grinning mischief-maker, or a man haunted by three ghosts, there are plenty of clues available in the images to give each team a chance of victory.
Remember to keep Uncle Bob away from sherry before you begin and keep the twins apart; you know how competitive they get. True, this may be our family, but safety precautions when getting competitive at Christmas is always advised.
