Described as “a celebration of music and its role in cinema”, the inaugural Sydney Film Music Festival kicks off on October 13, 2017, at the ICC Sydney Theatre. Brought to us by tour promoters MJR Presents, the festival comprises three days of iconic, arresting and enthralling musical scores.
First up, Friday, October 13, sees a celebration of 50 years of Star Trek with “The Ultimate Voyage,” which unites music and vision from across the entire span of the venerable SF franchise, including Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager and more.
Saturday, October 14, you can catch Ridley Scott’s towering historical epic, Gladiator, accompanied by a live orchestral performance of Hans Zimmer’s incredible score.
And finally, on Sunday, October 15, it’s family time with “Dreamworks Animation In Concert”, fanging out music from Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and more, including work from the likes Hans Zimmer, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Harry Gregson-Williams, etc and so forth.
“Music provides the emotional heartbeat of film and to bring together the two worlds to create an even greater experience for the senses is a real privilege,” said curator Scott Mesiti. “We look forward to this becoming an annual event to bring together the music and cinematic worlds in a celebration of emotion and humanity through the mediums.”
