Don’t worry, we know the feeling. Now that the holidays are over, we’re all looking for a pick-me-up, and what better way to do it than with a few thrill-a-minute films that have you constantly on the edge of your seat? With high stakes, everything on the line, and plenty of snappy dialogue, we’ll be looking at half a dozen of the best movies that will get you in the mood to kickstart 2026. Let’s dive into the details and look at everything our list has to offer.

Ocean’s 11: An instant classic

Danny Ocean is out on parole, and the system thinks that he’s going to play it straight, but little do the people who run the system know that he has an ace up his sleeve. He’s been busy rounding up a crack team of criminal associates and daredevils who are ready to pull off the biggest heist in the history of the world. His target? Three supposedly watertight Las Vegas casinos that he plans to hit simultaneously. His strategy? To strike during the biggest boxing match of the year so that he can get in and out when everyone else has eyes on something else. If you like your action to be smart, tightly written, and enthralling, this is the one for you.

A timeless masterpiece

Las Vegas is the scene once again in Casino, and this time it’s the turn of two best friends to show viewers what they can do. There are masterful performances from the likes of Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, and Sharon Stone, to name just a few, and the writing is what allows each of them to really show the world what they can do. Decades old, and yet as timely as ever, this is one cinematic masterpiece that will make you watch it all over again a week later. The story is based on the fascinating relationship and partnership between a casino executive and an enforcer for the mob, with plenty of fast-living and stunning socialites in the mix for good measure. A must-watch spectacle for anyone looking for a pick-me-up this winter.

Ocean’s 8 is a remake with plenty of personality

Danny Ocean’s sister, Debbie Ocean, appears with an all-woman crew ready to show the guys how it’s really done. There are some great cameos and tie-ins, plenty of witty lines, and the nail-biting moments that you can only get when the filmmakers are let loose in a real-life casino. If you’ve not seen Ocean’s 11, this newer version certainly stands up by itself, but if you watch them on consecutive nights, you can really fall in love with this cinematic universe. Highly recommended for anyone who loves the camaraderie and sense of belonging that you can get from watching something with plenty of hidden jokes and moments.

Lansky: A real-life pioneer

This crime drama biopic is about the iconic Meyer Lansky, who was one of the driving forces behind turning gambling from a back-street practice into one of the biggest industries in America. He brought maths, business sense, and a willingness to use the power of the criminal underworld together in a way few others have ever been able to manage. He even came up with the idea of turning casinos into resorts by embedding them in some of the most luxurious hotels in Cuba and right across Florida. This masterpiece has been brought to life by Eytan Rockaway and gives everyone who dares to watch it a window into the underbelly of the old gambling and casino world, decades before the online world had ever been dreamt up.

Molly’s Game

Like the sound of watching a film based on a true story? Here’s another one that is sure to have you glued to the screen from beginning to end. Molly Bloom wrote a memoir, it became a hit movie, and now the world knows how she became one of the biggest high-stakes poker operators in history. Organised criminals, celebrities, and politicians are all said to have played at her tables before the U.S. government intervened and took her down. This fast-paced, racy drama has plenty of quick dialogue that makes you think twice about what it means to take risks and ride it out to the end.

21 is so strange, it must be true

The MIT Blackjack Team was a group of maths geniuses who learned how to count cards, hit the Vegas Strip and took the biggest casinos in the world for millions of dollars. It’s a plot that sounds so strange that it must be true for it to be believable, and it is. These budding students showed that there are ways to beat the system, provided you have the tenacity and brain power, not to mention nerves of steel, to pull off win after win under intense scrutiny. It’s a fascinating insight into how simple odds and probabilities can be used to turn a game in favour of the players for once.

What’s your next move going to be?

It’s now up to you to pick your first watch from our list. Can’t decide? It probably won’t have escaped your attention that our list is only six movies long – the same as the number of sides on a dice. Pick it up, roll it, and see what you’re going to be watching tonight!

And if these movies have piqued your interest and made you want to learn more, there are plenty of websites where you can see how the odds work. Just remember, it’s about playing in a way that is healthy and manageable, and leaving the really big risks to the action heroes you see on the big screen.
