Following its premiere at the 2015 Sydney International Film festival and its time on the festival circuit, refugee documentary, Freedom Stories, will air on Australian community TV in Melbourne, Geelong, Adelaide and Perth this December.

Directed by Melbourne filmmaker, Steve Thomas, Freedom Stories looks at the lives of former boat people who are now making their homes in Australia. The film focuses on refugees who arrived in 2001, tracing their journeys from their wartorn homelands to their time in detention, their lives under the temporary visa system, and finally their struggles to forge new lives in their new country.

The film was screened at community and school events over 200 times during Refugee Week, and stands alongside Chasing Asylum as an important filmic artifact of the refugee crisis. It airs in Melbourne and Geelong on Channel 31 on Sunday, December 4; Adelaide on Channel 44 on Saturday, December 10; with Perth’s Channel 44 yet to announce a date.
