British filmmaker Ben Wheatley is turning out to be one of the most prolific and eclectic filmmakers going around.
After working primarily in television, feature films Kill List, Sightseers and A Field In England established him as an uncompromising talent, which had its highest profile recently with the divisive J. G. Ballard adaptation High-Rise. Now, he’s again collaborated with his writing partner Amy Jump for Free-Fire featuring his highest calibre cast to date: Brie Larson, Sam Riley, Cillian Murphy, Armie Hammer, Sharlto Copley, Jack Reynor, Noah Taylor and Enzo Cilenti among others. And calibre is about right for this ’70s Massachusets set story of a gun handover meeting gone wrong.
Free-Fire will release in cinemas in Sydney and Melbourne on April 27, and will play on March 11 in Sydney at the Monster Fest Travelling Sideshow.
