The upcoming drama series Picnic at Hanging Rock has been picked to screen at the 68th Berlin Film Festival “Berlinale Series” in February, making the FremantleMedia production only the second Australian series to be so honoured. The first two episodes will be screened for the festival, along with episodes from six other series from around the world.

The series will screen on Foxtel’s showcase channel later this year. “Foxtel congratulates the cast, directors, producers and creative team at Picnic at Hanging Rock, this selection at the Berlinale is testament to the world class quality of the series” said Brian Walsh, Foxtel’s Executive Director of Television.

Starring Natalie Dormer, Lily Sullivan, Samara Weaving, Madeleine Madden and Ruby Rees, Picnic at Hanging Rock is a brand new interpretation of Joan Lindsay’s classic 1967 novel. The book also inspired Peter Weir’s 1975 film of the same name, widely regarded as one of the best Australian movies of all time. So, no pressure there.

“This incredible acknowledgement of an Australian production from such a prestigious international festival honours the creativity, skill and hard work of our writers, directors, cast and crew. I’m delighted to see Foxtel’s belief in this project be recognised like this. Picnic at Hanging Rock is event television that is resonating around the world.” said FremantleMedia Australia’s Director of Drama and Executive Producer of Picnic at Hanging Rock, Jo Porter.
