Football was a gigantic part of Eddie Redmayne’s childhood, and he is going back to that time with his new stop motion animated movie, Early Man. Eddie plays Dug, a caveman who the actor says has “massive wide eyes” and a lot of hope. Dug fights Tom Hiddleston’s Lord Nooth to save his home and his people using the game of football.
“….I have a load of brothers who are all seriously talented footballers and really good sportsmen and I’m definitely not….” Eddie told FilmInk.
Eddie had an experience in his childhood with football/soccer and explains why he never got into it like his brothers: “It was against King’s Wimbledon, I was playing for Colet Court and I got dropped from the team. I don’t really remember playing football ever again, it must have been pretty scarring. So, this is my moment.”
Eddie enjoys going to a football game on occasion, but he was barred from going with his family who all support Arsenal. “I go occasionally to watch a game, but I was stopped from going to watch Arsenal, who in theory I support, but I really don’t know much about… all my family support them… but I remember going when I was a kid and they lost a couple of times so I was a bad omen, so I’m not invited back,” Eddie explained.
Early Man is in VIC and QLD cinemas from March 29 and the rest of Australia from April 12, 2018
